ABSTRACT

Much recent work has been devoted to connecting the continuum behavior of soils to the micromechanics of granular assemblies. To this end, numerical models of standard soil mechanics tests have been performed an analyzed. One common choice is the biaxial box (Alonso & Herrmann 2004; Luding 2004; García-Rojo et al. 2005; Pen˜a et al. 2005). Inspired by this work, we show in this contribution an analytical way to link the macroscopic results of these tests with the micromechanics.
