ABSTRACT

Egypt has a rapidly expanding economy, which consequently requires the construction of the necessary transport infrastructure. As part of this infrastructure it is proposed to construct twin road tunnels to form a permanent and durable road link between Port Said city in the west and Sinai Peninsula in the east. This project will link the international coastal express highway from the North Africa to Asia via Sallume – Alexandria – Port Said and going to Sinai Peninsula – Ghaza under the Suez Canal. The tunnels are to be located at Kp 19.15 of the Suez Canal south of Port Said while the Mubark Al-Salam Bridge is far from south of Port Said by 48.5 Km. So, the project will save approximately 100 Km from the international coastal express highway.
