ABSTRACT

Waterproof insulation of the lining of tunnel structures is currently made of special waterproof foils. This mostly concerns a sophisticated system of products which, in addition to the waterproof foil, contains sealing strips for the expansion joints, various shaped units and anchoring elements, protection geotextiles and special glues. Foil insulation systems function very reliably but their 100% functionality is characterized by several aspects. First of all they are very demanding for the quality of the base, for maintaining the placement technology and, in particular, for the exact performing of all joints and other details. Protection of the placed insulation is also important in order to prevent damage during subsequent work starting from the placement of the reinforcement through to the placement of the form of boarding up to the concreting of the secondary lining. Within such a complicated construction process influenced by many inputs it is very difficult to prevent errors which can have a negative influence on the efficiency of the waterproof insulation. It is necessary to take these problems into consideration in advance and to prepare conditions for fast and effective action. Therefore, it is recommended to complete the injection protection system in the design phase where it can be easily activated if necessary, i.e. in the case of the occurrence of leakages and to remove these leakages. This is mainly valid in the case of intermediate foil insulations

performed along the whole perimeter of the structure (the so-called “submarine” type) where the underground structure is submerged into the underground water and no its drainage effect is reflected.
