ABSTRACT
Conventional limit equilibrium methods of slope stability analysis can not predict such failures since the volume contractions and loss of strength usually occur well before the mobilization of failure shear strength. It is important, therefore, that the conditions leading to the volume contractions, and the factors that affect them are determined such that the potential for such failures can be determined.
