ABSTRACT
The most important effects of laser light used in treating tumours (benign or malignant) are thermal and photochemical. The thermal applications are simplest to understand, the effect depending on how much heat is delivered, how fast it is delivered and the volume of tissue in which it is absorbed. They are discussed in this chapter; photochemical effects are discussed in chapter D3.2.3.
