ABSTRACT

To accomplish these objectives requires • understanding the overall system requirements, • selecting appropriate materials, • determining the configuration of the parts, • anticipating a process for building the product at each phase from feasibility to maximum production

and • testing to assure the objectives are met. Ideally, the designer pursues a global optimum but reality usually forces compromise among oft-conflicting goals. The design process is seldom simple or linear; most often it is highly iterative as well as interactive with other parts of the bigger picture.
