D P Hand The beam delivery of laser light is an important consideration for any high-power laser application, whether for manufacturing (section D1) or medical applications (section D3). Such lasers are normally large and heavy and so cannot be easily moved. In addition, in many applications such as welding (chapter D1.1) in automotive manufacture or ship-building, the workpiece is also of considerable size and mass. This means that the ideal solution is to manipulate the laser beam relative to the workpiece.
