ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will look at some of the key issues surrounding the development and deployment of server-side Java applications. The focus is on demanding business-critical, server-hosted applications that are driving the Internet, intranet, and extranet sites for E-commerce and Net-business. First we will look at the benefits and some shortcomings of using Java on the server-side application development. We will then review the characteristics and requirements of server-side applications. Next we will look at the development issues and key decisions that will have to be made. Finally, we will look at the deployment issues associated with moving server-side Java applications into enterprise production.
