ABSTRACT

In the old days, performance and capacity reports were run on the muchslower mainframes with smaller memory and bulky storage devices. A data center manager developed the format for a database of eight records of system data for COBOL system programmers. The first part of each record was the same: sort key area of 28 bytes plus the primary part of common areas. Some parameters are still useful, while other parameters have become obsolete. New parameters are needed to better measure the capacity requirements of a system. Network bandwidth, for example, is now an important performance and capacity parameter.
