ABSTRACT
Traditional, customized development has, in many cases, become too expensive, and protracted development times may cause organizations to miss business windows of opportunity. The purchase of packages and offthe-shelf components, as well as contracted development, can greatly reduce costs and speed delivery. Due to the competition in every quarter, organizations would be far more vulnerable to major business risk if they did not seek alternatives to traditional development. But the new approaches pose many dangers.
