ABSTRACT

Boric acid is moderately soluble in water. Its solubility increases markedly with temperature due to the large negative heat of dissolution. Boron is considered as a typical metalloid having properties intermediate between the metals and the electronegative non-metals. Boron has a tendency to form anionic rather than cationic complexes. Boron chemistry is of covalent B compounds and not of B3þ ions because of its very high ionization potentials. Boron has five electrons, two in the inner spherical shell (1s2), two in the outer spherical shell (2s2), and one in the dumbbell shaped shell (2p1x).
