ABSTRACT
Internationally there has been a trend towards using high strength concrete in the pre-cast and prestressed concrete industry to increase product output and reduce product loss during handling. The use of higher strength can result in thinner sections and longer beam spans and thus a reduction in dead load. Higher strength concrete does however fail in a more brittle manner but steel fibres can be added to the concrete to ensure non-brittle failure.
