The measurement of evapotranspiration is complex. Unlike other components of the water balance, it is usually measured indirectly (by studying the water balance at an experimental site or watershed). However, actual evapotranspiration (Etn) can be
measured directly by calculating the water loss from a lysimeter planted with vegetation, for example.
