ABSTRACT

If a crime scene can be secured without moving the Ÿrearm, this is preferable. Move all subjects at the scene to a safe location outside the perimeter of the crime scene. A search of the scene may be necessary to ensure there are no additional subjects remaining within the scene, such as suspects or additional victims or witnesses. Once the scene is deemed safe and it has been secured, there should be no need for the Ÿrearms to be moved or removed from the scene. Leaving the Ÿrearm in its original location and original condition will be of the most beneŸt to detectives, crime scene investigators, and coroners or medical examiners who may be responding to assist with the incident.
