ABSTRACT

Controlled substances can be involved in nearly any criminal investigation. Cases varying from simple tra£c infractions, DUI, thež, burglary, robbery, assault, sexual assault, and murder can all involve legal and illegal drugs. ™e illegal distribution, possession, and abuse of controlled substances in the United States is perhaps the most pressing problem facing law enforcement agencies, because so much other criminal activity is inœuenced by drugs. Abusers will commit thežs, burglaries, robberies, and prostitution to Ÿnance their addictions. Distributors will commit crimes such as assaults and murders to “collect” on debts. Many of the problems confronted by law enforcement agencies and judicial districts can all be related to the illegal possession, distribution, and abuse of controlled substances.
