ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This paper investigates feasibility for bridge health monitoring from output-only vibration measurements under a single moving vehicle through a laboratory experiment. The parameters considering in this study are system frequency and damping constant rather than modal ones because signals obtained under a moving vehicle are not the responses of the observation bridge itself but those of the bridge-vehicle interactive system. A parameter from the AR coefficients is also adopted to detect abnormality of the bridge. Consideration also goes into diagnosis of the bridge from pattern change of identified system parameters due to damages. Observations demonstrate the possibility of making a decision for the current bridge condition from the identified system parameters of the vehicle-bridge interactive system.
