1 INTRODUCTION

The use of wet-mix shotcrete in lieu of conventional cast-in-place formed concrete, for construction of reinforced concrete walls has a long history of successful use on the West Coast of the USA. The use of wet-mix structural shotcrete has its origins in seismic retrofit of schools and commercial buildings in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas in the 1950’s, later spreading to Seattle and San Diego.
