ABSTRACT

Anemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, and bone marrow suppression are major acute hematological toxicity of As. The acute cardiovascular effect of As includes cardiac abnormality (ventricular fibrillation and atypical tachycardia), prolonged Q-T interval, abnormal T wave, congestive heart failure, and hypotension. The respiratory symptoms and signs of acute As toxicity include irritation of nasal mucosa, pharynx, larynx and bronchi, pulmonary edema, tracheobronchitis, and bronchial pneumonia. Conjunctivitis is the major ophthalmic toxicity of As.
