ABSTRACT

Twenty rice seeds were germinated in 15 cm Petri dishes on Whatman # 1filter paper moistened with 8 mL of distilled water alone (as control), or 25 and 50 μM of As alone, or with supplementation of 100 μM SNP (a NO donor). In all, there were six treatments, three without SNP and three with SNP. Concentrations of As were selected based upon an earlier study (Singh et al., 2007). Five replicates were maintained per treatment and Petri dishes were maintained in a growth chamber in a completely randomized design at 30/25 (±2)ºC temperature, a 16h photoperiod (06.00 AM to 22.00 PM) of ∼240 μ mol photons/m/s, and a relative humidity of 76 ± 2%. One-week after the start of the experiment, root lengths of emerged seedlings were measured, and roots harvested for further biochemical analyses.
