ABSTRACT

Basically, Dual Grid Method is still a combination of FEM and Rigid Limit Equilibrium Method. It aims at computing safety factor of slopes or sliding blocks. Dual Grid Method outperforms others in that it not only takes deformation compatibility into consideration but also requires unnecessarily repeated computation or re-mesh. It has been incorporated into a 3-dimensional nonlinear geotechnical FE program (TFINE) and successfully applied to several major scale projects. In rest of this paper, principles and implementation procedures of Dual Grid Method shall be presented in detail, followed by two benchmark tests examining its accuracy and validity.
