Identification and quantification of the mechanical response of soil-wall structures in soft ground improvement

In this paper, the governing equations for the description of the motion of a porous medium and the material constitutive model for describing the nonlinear behaviour of soil material are presented. By means of 3D non-linear finite element analyses, the interaction of the components of pavement/soil-wall structures on soft soils and the internal mechanisms that lead to damage have been addressed. The emphasis is placed not on the manifestations of damage but on the actual causes.
