ABSTRACT

The design method by Priebe (Priebe 1995) is an analytical method based on the cylindrical cavity expansion problem in a linear-elastic half-space. It contains several major simplifications and assumptions:

• Linear-elastic behaviour of the column and the soil. • Design charts are given only for one constant

Poisson ratio ν= 1/3 of the soil to be improved. • Uniform radial strains εr =rc/r0c of the column

due to loading (cylindrical cavity expansion). • Earth pressure coefficient of the soft soil K = 1.0

due to the column installation process.
