ABSTRACT

Eurocode 7 (BSI 2004) exists within the framework of the more general structural Eurocodes and, in contrast with many preceding geotechnical design codes, has been developed to be as general as possible in application. While this results in a number of benefits, such as apparently straightforward integration with general purpose numerical analysis methods, it can result in potential differences in interpretation and application. Assumptions that were implicit in previous practice often need to be stated explicitly in Eurocode 7.
