ABSTRACT

In recent years, the finite element method has been considered the main tool for solving geotechnical problems. It is evident that many of the investigated problems in geotechnical engineering involve large deformations of the soil and the structure. Problems with large deformations of the soil and the structure are for example: vibratory compaction, failure of dams, grounding of ships or installation of piles. The main focus of this contribution lies on the use of a new Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian approach for the simulation of pile penetration processes.
