Both onshore and offshore foundation systems are constantly evolving to meet the requirements generated by new developments in the energy sector. Offshore developments may result from moving into ever deeper water for hydrocarbon recovery, or creating foundation systems from renewable energy sources such wind, wave and current driven generators. The particular case of wind turbines in on-or offshore environments presents specific foundation challenges due to the complex loading patterns and restrictive operational requirements of the structure.
