If the deformation and shear of the clay particles are the main phenomena to be taken into account during the installation phase, the time would scale as t* = 1/N, and the velocity v* = 1. When suction effects and pore pressure dissipation govern the behaviour (for instance during loading of the suction piles), the time scales as t* = 1/N2.
