ABSTRACT

In this paper, the undrained uplift capacity of helical anchors in kaolin clay was studied using centrifuge model tests. Twelve model tests were carried out, varying the number of helical plates from 1 to 3, the plate spacing from 1 D to 1.5 D (D represents the helical plate diameter) and using three kinds of surficial water condition. A large deformation finite element method was also used to study the uplift behaviour of single-plate anchors. The dependency of the maximum uplift capacity on the soil failure mode is also discussed.
