ABSTRACT
The suction in tidal flat soil is unique and different from conventional suction as commonly dealt with in unsaturated soil mechanics (Fredlund & Rahardjo 1993). In fact, it is waterfront suction that develops and changes in essentially saturated states below the air-entry suction of the soil (Sassa & Watabe 2007).
