ABSTRACT

Potts & Addenbrooke (1997) quantified the modification to bending of a structure in terms of the change in deflection ratio (∆/L) for both the hogging and sagging regions. Note that the hogging and sagging regions are partitioned by the point of inflexion of the settlement trough (i). The magnitude of this modification is found to be highly dependent on ρ*. Similarly, the modification to the tensile and compressive strains in the hogging and sagging regions respectively was found to be highly dependent on α*.
