ABSTRACT

The technical schema of the wastewater treatment plant is presented in Figure 2. (The numbers in parentheses in the following text refer to elements of Figure 2.) Mechanical pre-treatment of the sewage takes place in a joined system of screw sieves with grit separators. These devices are placed above a sewage retention tank (4) in which pre-treated sewage is stored. The sewage is then sent to two multifunctional SBRs. The reactors are cylindrical and divided into identical tanks with an internal closed denitrification chamber (5). When the reactor is filling, sewage is sent to the denitrification chamber and then through outlets placed at the bottom of the chamber (slow flow) to an external reactor (6) in which aeration, sedimentation and decantation take place. Horizontal agitators are installed in the denitrification chamber, whereas vertical agitators and fine bubble diffusers are installed in the multifunctional reactor. Air, from blowers located above the denitrification chamber, is sent to the diffusers.
