ABSTRACT
While he was in Berlin , Euler was as creative and diligent as always. In addition to the almanac s, he had many other special assignments from the king. For example, Frederick asked him to design pumps for the fountains in the gardens at his lovely new palace called Sans Souci [Without Cares] in Potsdam, outside of Berlin. In the end, Frederick was not satisfi ed with the results, because Euler reported that the current wooden pipes reinforced with metal couldn’t contain the water pressure that Frederick wanted. Euler had his limits-even he couldn’t defy the laws of physics .
