ABSTRACT

Bacterial pathogens of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. syn. Solanum lycopersion) cause serious and destructive diseases affecting both field and greenhouse grown crops. In this review we focus on bacterial canker caused by Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis, bacterial speck caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas species, and bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum. These pathogens account for the most serious bacterial diseases in tomato (Jones et al. 1991).
