ABSTRACT

The principal conversion product of hydrocarbons including major fossil fuels and biomass is synthesis gas, the mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, mainly resulting from the processes of steam reforming, partial oxidation (POX), or autothermal reforming (ATR). If the hydrogen product is to be maximized, the conversion processes are followed by the water-gas shift reaction. The Œnal processing step is the separation and puriŒcation of the hydrogen.
