ABSTRACT

The dynamics of heavy metals and their transport in the soil pro”le play a signi”cant role in their bioavailability and leaching losses beyond the rootzone. The primary emphasis in this chapter is on different approaches that describe the dynamics of heavy metals in the soil system. Such knowledge is necessary because these approaches provide direct information on the concentration of heavy metals in the soil solution and thus on their dynamics and bioavailability in soils. Moreover, such predictive capability requires knowledge of the physical, chemical, as well as biological processes inˆuencing heavy metal behavior in the soil environment.
