Implementation of safety management systems in nuclear power plants in Germany and results of a German research project

The supervisory authorities shall ensure that the safety management systems meet acceptable quality criteria and that they are implemented correctly. For this purpose, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conversation and Nuclear Safety published a guidance document ‘Fundamentals of Safety Management Systems in Nuclear Power Plants”, in which the requirements on safety management systems are systematically compiled according to a national standard /BMU 04/. Specific requirements will be put in more concrete terms in a further document at a later stage.
