ABSTRACT

Depression is a psychiatric disorder and one of world’s most serious health threats. It is an illness that can challenge one’s ability to perform routine activities and may even lead people to contemplate or commit suicide (Depression Overview, https://www.emedicinehealth.com). ough depression is more common in the elderly than in young people, it aects people of almost all ages. Depression can be diagnosed and treated eectively in most people. e biggest problem in treating depression is that patients must recognize the signs of depression and seek appropriate treatment. Experienced clinicians use history, clinical interviews, psychological testing, self-reports, and many other methods to assess the presence of depression and the degree of depression in individuals (Gullick and King 1979; Johnson 1974; Pokorny 1983; Popkin and Callies 1987).
