ABSTRACT

In the translation of Grandjean's (1989) Fining the Task to the Man, ergonomics in product design deals with the fitting of the product to the user, or, more precisely, to the needs of the user. This not only includes the person, but also the circumstances of usage, such as the purpose of use and the environmental conditions. Considering ergonomics with a focus on handling attributes, the term usability (and, respectively, usability engineering, for the design process) has been established synonymously with ergonomics.
