ABSTRACT

Throughout human history, people have worn head coverings as protection against weather and physical danger. Some of the oldest forms of headgear are armored helmets, intended to protect soldiers from rocks, arrows, and spears. The modern military continues to be a driving force in the development of 302protective headgear. The technologically sophisticated ballistic helmets of today respond to ever-greater challenges of armed conflict, applying advances in composite materials, optics, and electronics.
