ABSTRACT
State of the art in high-end core materials are hexagonal honeycombs consisting of glued and expanded layers of synthetic paper [Hexcel Composites 10]. Although these honeycombs offer excellent mechanical per-
formance, their use is problematic, e.g., in moist environments, where the closed cells tend to fill up with water, leading to severe performance degradation and unwanted mass.
