ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The mass service models have been used for many years at resolving technical problems involving the sets of tasks waiting for execution, regarding the different boundary conditions and assumptions. Such a situation is observed also in the operation of sewer networks, when the data concerning damages to pipes are sent to the operators. The use of mass service models let us calculate the optimum number of service crews dealing with the queue of damaged sewers. It is also possible to use this theorem to optimize the activity of a company by controlling sewers’ check procedure and also to estimate the budget of rehabilitation work at the assumed level of reliability of sewer network. The abilities of the use of mass service systems in a sewer network are presented as well as the assumptions taken at the calculations based on the analysis approach developed by Kendall are described and also the example of calculation of the optimum number of service crews is given.
