ABSTRACT

The Edwards aquifer is located in semi-arid central Texas (USA) and provides an example of an extensively managed aquifer system that is still addressing issues associated with regulation that will hopefully permit an equitable distribution of the resource between water users and environmental needs. The formal necessity for groundwater management was instituted through the courts in the early 1990s. A management system has been developed and is continually undergoing change due to challenges (mostly legal) associated with addressing the multi-objective, multi-user requirements from this aquifer system.
