ABSTRACT

The Central and West Coast groundwater basins (CWCB), a groundwater resource underlying the area in southern Los Angeles County between Playa del Rey, Palos Verdes, Long Beach and Whittier (Figure 1), provide domestic water for 4 million residents, over ten percent of the total population of the State of California. The 43 cities overlying and drawing water from the basins engage in conjunctive use of groundwater and surface water and rely on CWCB groundwater for approximately forty percent of their retail water supply.
