ABSTRACT

Historically, overdraft of groundwater in many areas has caused different geological hazards, such as land subsidence, earth fissures, sinkholes, seawater or brackish water intrusion, and other induced hazards. Well fields for groundwater pumping have been constructed throughout the United States. The problem of land subsidence and earth fissures may occur in these areas, particularly where groundwater over-draft causes water levels or hydraulic heads to drop significantly.
