ABSTRACT
Before we discuss the two main mechanisms, we introduce a toy model that captures the relevant physics of spin relaxation without resorting explicitly to quantum mechanics: the electron spin in a randomly ¦uctuating magnetic ¿eld. We will ¢nd certain universal qualitative features of the spin relaxation and dephasing in physically important situations.
