ABSTRACT
The key step in this transformation is the endo-cleavage of the glycosidic bond to form an acyclic oxonium ion intermediate 9 (Scheme 14.2), which then undergoes intramolecular recyclization through a chair-like six-membered ring intermediate 11, followed by reduction of the formed ketone to yield the carbocyclic product 7.
