ABSTRACT
Reasons that a package may be suspicious to postal authorities and inspectors are varied, and have included an excessive amount of tape,1 being larger than most private packages,2 paying in cash,3 sending a package in an expensive way when a cheaper alternative seems appropriate,4 giving the appearance of trying to avoid security cameras,5 having misspellings on labels,6 having handwritten labels,7 arriving at a facility in a rental car,8 smelling of masking agents such as coffee,9 and being sent from a bad neighborhood.10 Packages coming from a narcotics source city often adds to other suspicions, but it seems that any city or state near a border can t this classi cation.11 Going to a narcotics destination city can be equally broad in law enforcement perspectives.12 FedEx packages without telephone numbers have been called suspicious.13
