ABSTRACT

Proximity warning systems are being ever more deployed in mobile mining equipment such as haul trucks, trains and light vehicles (Horberry, Burgess-Limerick & Steiner, 2010) in an attempt to prevent equipment collisions. RecentAustralian data suggests that approximately 35% of mining fatalities are due to vehicle interactions and 53% involved pedestrians and vehicles (Bell, 2009).Whatever the precise mining application, the aim of these technologies is ultimately to prevent collisions between vehicles, vehicles and persons and vehicles and infrastructure.
