ABSTRACT

Seaport security has become a critical element of supply chain economics and a vital concern for world shipping. Every seaport and its waterway present unique safety and security challenges and the vulnerability issue usually requires consideration of large-scale, multitier complex systems. Seaport and its waterway must be protected from illegal activities and environmental hazards. Cargo and ships need to get to their intended destination safely, on schedule and need protection from any security threat. Managing safety and security in port waterway area requires an affordable and versatile system, technology and components that can deliver highperformance and high reliability. As a result, Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) are seen as the best mechanism to be integrated in managing security in the Malaysian ports and waterways.
