ABSTRACT

The results of randomized controlled trials are essential for choosing among different treatment options in clinical practice. The communication of trial results mainly relies on scienti c publications that play an important role in disseminating and implementing research results. However, to be useful, published reports must be completely transparent and contain, in addition to a complete description of the bene ts and harm of the treatment, a description of all elements necessary to judge the internal and external validity of the trial. The role of transparency is actually an ethical requirement. The Declaration of Helsinki states that “Authors have a duty to make publicly available the results of their research on human subjects and are accountable for the completeness and accuracy of their reports.”
