ABSTRACT

Two alternative main strategies for obtaining a low yield force shear panels are usually adopted.

The first is based on the use of relatively thin plates with a small number of stiffeners and with a base material characterized by low yield stress point and high ductility. This solution has found, during the nineties, a wide application in Japan, where a special low yield steel characterized by 100 MPa yield stress has been used (Nakashima et al., 1994), as well as in Italy, where the heath treated AW1054 aluminium alloy (conventional yield stress equal to about 18 MPa) has been applied for the first time in the structural engineering field by the authors (De Matteis et al., 2011).
